Asian Games 2023: Indian Men’s and Women’s Table Tennis Teams Dominate in China

The women’s team picked up a 3-0 straight win over Nepal as Diya Chitale, Ayhkiya Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee were all in fine touch, before the men’s unit steamrolled past Tajikistan by the same score line as Manav Thakkar, Manush Shah and Harmeet Desai outclassed their opponents.

The Indian table tennis contingent, both men’s and women’s units, put up a dominant showing in the ongoing Hangzhou Asian Games 2023.

The women’s team picked up a 3-0 straight win over Nepal as Diya Chitale, Ayhkiya Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee all defeated their opponents in quick style on Friday.

Chitale opened the Indian challenge against Nepal as she thrashed Sikka Suwal Shrestha 11-1, 11-8, 11-6 in a matter of a quarter of an hour.

Ayhkiya got the beating of Nabita Shrestha in the second rubber of the fixture with a score of 11-3, 11-7, 11-2, before Sutirtha wrapped up the fixture with her win over Evana Thapa Magar 11-1, 11-5, 11-2.

After the women’s contingent had passed their challenge with flying colours, the men came out to continue their brilliant showing in China as they got the better of Tajikistan by a score of 3-0 as well.

Manav Thakkar gave the men in blue a fine start with his 3-0 win over  Afzalkhon Mahmudov as the Indian brushed aside his opponent 11-8, 11-5, 11-5, before Manush Shah fought hard to get past Ubaydullo Sultonov 13-11, 11-7, 11-5 to make India’s lead 2-0.

Harmeet Desai, who also picked up a win on Thursday in the fixture against Yemen, strolled past Ibrokhim Ismoilzoda 11-1, 11-3, 11-5.
